CNN.com - Pharmacists challenge birth control rule - Dec 20, 2005

CNN.com - Pharmacists challenge birth control rule - Dec 20, 2005: "The Illinois rule, the first of its kind in the nation, requires pharmacies that sell federally approved contraceptives to fill prescriptions for emergency birth control 'without delay' if they have the medication in stock. Blagojevich, a Democrat, imposed the rule in April, and it has been permanent since August.
The rule says that if the contraceptive is not in stock, the pharmacy must order it or transfer the prescription to another pharmacy of the patient's choice. If a pharmacist won't fill the prescription because of a moral objection, another pharmacist must be available there to fill it.
The lawsuit represents five pharmacists indefinitely suspended by Walgreen Co. for refusing on religious or moral grounds to dispense the drugs, as well as two pharmacists worried they may face similar disciplinary action. Walgreen has said it had no choice but to follow the law.
Abby Ottenhoff, a Blagojevich spokeswoman, called the rule 'a clear and common-sense way to ensure that women have access to the medication their doctors prescribe.'
'If a pharmacist objects (to the rule), he or she is free to work in a pharmacy that doesn't stock and dispense' emergency contraception, she said.
The American Center for Law and Justice also filed a complaint last month with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission accusing Walgreen of religious discrimination by 'effectively firing' three St. Louis-area pharmacists it disciplined. The three also are among the seven in the federal lawsuit."

We should be in prayer for pharmacists to stand up for Christ and against this persecution. BTW - This article talk about Pat Robertson bringing the suit. Please don't judge Christianity by Pat Robertson. In most cases he's completely wrong. He just happened to get this one right.

CNN.com - Judge rules against'intelligent design' in science class - Dec 20, 2005

CNN.com - Judge rules against 'intelligent design' in science class - Dec 20, 2005: "In an opinion issued Tuesday, U.S. District Judge John Jones ruled that teaching 'intelligent design' would violate the Constitutional separation of church and state.
'We have concluded that it is not [science], and moreover that ID cannot uncouple itself from its creationist, and thus religious, antecedents,' Jones writes in his 139-page opinion posted on the court's Web site. (Opinion, pdf)...

Richard Thompson, a spokesman for the Michigan-based Thomas More Law Center, which aided the school district, called Jones' verdict a 'troubling decision.'

'The founders of this country would be astonished at the thought that this simple curriculum change established religion in violation of the Constitution that they drafted,' Thompson said."

It's probably best to try and get teachers to point out the holes in Darwin's theory rather than try to get them to teach ID.

Chicago Tribune | Students bridge science, faith at Christian colleges

Chicago Tribune | Students bridge science, faith at Christian colleges: "Meanwhile, Colling at Olivet Nazarene is determined to find a way to bridge the gap between science and faith.

'When they recognize ID is a sinking ship, they'll want an option that keeps God in the picture,' he said. He believes he may have that option in 'random design,' a concept he developed that gives science the freedom to pursue truth wherever it leads and people of faith the ability to see God in the very randomness of evolution.

'Random design is not directionless design. Random design is equal opportunity. It speaks of a God who is so big that he can even harness the law of randomness to create,' said Colling, who laid out his case for the concept in his 2004 book 'Random Designer.'

'It makes a very clear statement to the student that religion and science can be fully compatible,' he said. 'We know it can happen because it's happening. You can be a Christian and fully embrace science.'"

Random design is just another name for Theistic Evolution. I think there are problems with this, but the name thing is that we can not escape the fact the we need a Creator. I wonder if random design makes it harder for us to see the need for a Savior.
